A scrap metal shear is a heavy-duty hydraulic machine that cuts bulky ferrous and non-ferrous scrap — such as steel beams, rebar, plates, pipes, rails and HMS — into short, uniform pieces suitable for steel mills, foundries and shipping containers.

Material is loaded into the cutting box, pressed and compacted by the side-wing and top-lid cylinders, and then sheared by the main cutting cylinder at 320–1,600 tons of cutting force.
