Aluminium Extrusion Process

The extrusion process transforms heated aluminium billets into precision-shaped profiles by forcing material through a steel die under immense hydraulic pressure.

1

Billet Heating

Aluminium billets are pre-heated to 400–520 °C in a gas or induction furnace, reaching the optimal plasticity for extrusion.

2

Billet Loading

The heated billet is transferred to the press container. A log shear cuts billets to the required length for each die setup.

3

Extrusion

The hydraulic ram forces the softened aluminium through a precision-machined steel die, forming the desired cross-sectional profile.

4

Cooling & Stretching

Extruded profiles are quenched (air or water), then stretched on a puller/stretcher table to correct any twist or bow.

5

Sawing & Aging

Profiles are cut to finished lengths by a precision saw, then artificially aged in an oven (T5/T6 temper) to achieve final mechanical properties.

Engineered for Precision, Built for Production

Every ARZIR extrusion press is designed, manufactured, and tested in our own factory — giving you direct access to a proven OEM partner with 12+ years of aluminium processing expertise.

Precision Hydraulic Control

Rexroth/Parker proportional valve technology with closed-loop PID control delivers extrusion speed accuracy within ±1%, ensuring consistent profile wall thickness and surface quality across every billet.

Energy-Efficient Design

Variable-frequency pump systems reduce energy consumption by 30–40% compared to conventional fixed-displacement designs. Servo-hydraulic options available for maximum efficiency.

Quick Die Change System

Slide-out die cassette with hydraulic clamping enables 3–8 minute die changes, minimizing downtime between profile runs and maximizing productive extrusion time per shift.

Smart PLC Automation

Siemens/ABB PLC with HMI touch-screen for one-button cycle operation, automatic dead-cycle control, isothermal extrusion management, recipe storage, and remote monitoring via IoT.

Heavy-Duty Frame & Columns

Pre-stressed tie-rod column design with forged alloy steel, precision-ground platen faces, and FEA-optimized frame geometry ensure zero deflection under full load for decades of reliable service.

Aluminium Extrusion Press Questions & Answers

Get quick answers to the most common questions about our aluminium extrusion presses, production capabilities, and after-sales support.

How do I determine the required press tonnage for my profiles?
The required tonnage depends on your profile’s circumscribing circle diameter (CCD), wall thickness, alloy type, and extrusion ratio. Small profiles (CCD under 100 mm) typically need 600–800T presses. Medium profiles for windows, doors, and industrial applications (CCD 100–200 mm) require 1000–1600T. Large structural sections and seamless tubes (CCD 200–300 mm) need 1800–2500T. Extra-large profiles for rail transit and aerospace (CCD 300 mm+) require 3000T or above. Our engineering team provides free tonnage calculations based on your specific profile drawings.
What aluminium alloys can your extrusion presses handle?
ARZIR aluminium extrusion presses handle all common extrusion alloys including 6063, 6061, 6005, 6082 (6xxx series for architectural and structural profiles), 1050, 1060, 1100 (1xxx series for general purpose), 3003, 3105 (3xxx series), and 7075, 7005 (7xxx series for high-strength applications). The press hydraulic system and tooling are optimized for the specific alloy’s flow stress, extrusion temperature (typically 400–520 °C), and speed requirements.
What production capacity can I expect from an ARZIR extrusion press?
Production capacity depends on press tonnage, billet size, profile complexity, and alloy type. A typical 1000T press can extrude 3–8 billets per hour for standard 6063 profiles, while a 1600T press handles 4–10 billets per hour. Annual output ranges from 3,000 to 15,000+ metric tons depending on the press model, shift schedule, and profile mix. Our engineers provide detailed capacity calculations based on your specific product range and production targets.
Do you supply complete extrusion lines or individual machines?
Yes. ARZIR supplies complete aluminium extrusion lines including the extrusion press, billet heating furnace (gas or induction), log shear, die oven, lead-out table, run-out conveyor, puller, cooling system (air or water quench), stretcher, saw (flying saw or finish saw), stacking system, and aging oven. We also supply individual machines if you only need to replace or upgrade specific equipment in an existing line.
How fast is the die change process on your presses?
ARZIR extrusion presses feature a quick die change system that reduces die changeover time to 3–8 minutes depending on the press model. The system includes a slide-out die cassette, hydraulic die clamping, and precision die alignment guides. This minimizes downtime between profile changes and maximizes productive extrusion time, especially important for operations running multiple profile types per shift.
What warranty and after-sales support do you provide?
All ARZIR aluminium extrusion presses include a 12-month warranty covering manufacturing defects on structural and hydraulic components. We provide lifetime technical support via phone, email, and video call. Spare parts — including hydraulic seals, valves, cylinders, PLC components, and wear parts — ship globally within 5–7 business days. On-site installation supervision, commissioning, operator training, and annual maintenance services are available. Our engineering team also provides ongoing die design consultation and process optimization support.
What billet sizes and diameters can your presses accommodate?
ARZIR extrusion presses accommodate billet diameters from 90 mm on compact 600T models up to 400 mm and beyond on large-tonnage 3000–3600T presses. Billet length is configurable based on your container and log shear setup, typically ranging from 400 mm to 1,200 mm. The press container bore, dummy block, and tooling are all matched to your specified billet diameter. Custom container sizes are available to suit non-standard billet specifications or existing billet stock.
What control system and automation level do your presses offer?
All ARZIR extrusion presses are equipped with a Siemens or ABB PLC paired with a color HMI touch-screen for fully automated cycle operation. Key automation features include closed-loop extrusion speed and pressure control, isothermal extrusion management (automatic speed adjustment to compensate for billet temperature drop), dead-cycle end detection, recipe storage for multiple profile programs, production data logging, and optional remote monitoring via an IoT gateway. Servo-hydraulic drive systems are available for the highest level of energy efficiency and response accuracy.
How long does delivery and installation take?
Standard lead time for a single extrusion press is 90–120 days from order confirmation and drawing approval. Complete turnkey extrusion lines typically require 150–180 days depending on scope and customization level. ARZIR provides full project management from foundation drawings and utility requirements through sea freight, on-site installation supervision, mechanical and hydraulic commissioning, PLC parameter setup, trial extrusion runs, and hands-on operator training. Our engineers remain on-site until the line reaches stable production output.
Can your presses be integrated with downstream finishing equipment?
Yes. ARZIR extrusion presses are designed for full integration with downstream finishing equipment. The press PLC communicates directly with the puller, stretcher, flying saw, and stacking system via digital I/O or industrial Ethernet (Profinet/EtherNet/IP), enabling synchronized line control from a single operator station. We also supply or interface with anodising pre-treatment lines, powder coating conveyor systems, thermal break assembly machines, and CNC machining centers. If you are integrating third-party equipment, our engineers provide communication protocol documentation and commissioning support to ensure seamless interoperability.
