A briquetting machine is a hydraulic press that compresses loose metal chips, turnings and swarf into dense, easy-to-handle briquettes — without any binder or heat.

Material is fed into the pre-press chamber, then compacted by the main cylinder at 1,800–3,150 bar of specific pressure. The final briquette reaches a density of 5.5–6.8 g/cm³ for steel and 2.4–2.7 g/cm³ for aluminium — close to the density of solid metal.
